An Improved Sea Clutter Suppression Method for Shipborne HFSWR
Shipborne high-frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR) is an important tool for target monitoring in exclusive economic zones. However, various types of clutter can affect radar performance. Among these, sea surface clutter broadening is one of the most significant factors impacting radar detection capabilities. In this paper, an improved sea clutter suppression algorithm, which employs a two-stage process consisting of orthogonal projection (OP) followed by an improved higher order singular value decomposition (IHOSVD) is proposed for shipborne HFSWR. We apply the OP algorithm for initial suppression in clutter-affected regions. Then, the IHOSVD method, which incorporates an adaptive singular value selection technique, is used to further suppress sea clutter and enhance the target signal-to-clutter ratio (SCR). Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm exhibits excellent performance in suppressing sea clutter and enhancing the target signal.
