Decoupling Surface for Mutual Coupling Reduction in a Tapered-Slot Array
Mutual coupling has been a longstanding inhibitor to phased array performance, and therefore there are many different approaches to reducing mutual coupling. Here, we present the design and simulation results of an array decoupling surface, implemented for a tapered-slot array. A surface consisting of a single layer of copper strips reduces coupling across an <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$18\%$</tex> bandwidth with marginal effects on array gain and matching performance.
