3-D Wave Measurement System Using IMU and MEMS Cantilever-Type Differential Pressure Sensor

This study reports on a wave height measurement system that combines a micro-electromechanical system (MEMS)-based differential pressure (DP) sensor with an inertial measurement unit (IMU). The proposed system integrates a DP sensor with a mechanical bandpass filter and an IMU to achieve high temporal resolution and high accuracy. Combinatorial linear complementation of the sensor outputs enables the system to compensate for IMU-based errors such as integral drift and uncertainty in gravity direction estimation. In sea experiments, the correlation coefficient with commercial GPS sensor values increased from 0.874 to 0.876. This confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed system and the correction process.
