Breaking Free from Local Oscillators with Silicon Photonic Phase Retrieval Receivers

Phase retrieval receivers recover phase from intensity-only measurements, enabling coherent receivers without local oscillators. We demonstrate integrated phase retrieval receivers on a silicon photonic platform, recovering polarization-division multiplexed QPSK and QAM signals from an unmodified transmitter.

Abstract

Phase retrieval receivers recover phase from intensity-only measurements, enabling coherent receivers without local oscillators. We demonstrate integrated phase retrieval receivers on a silicon photonic platform, recovering polarization-division multiplexed QPSK and QAM signals from an unmodified transmitter.
