The Effect of Microfabricated Cell Adhesion Areas on Ultrasound Response of Ion Channel-Type Receptor
These days, an ion channel-type receptor called TRP A 1 has been found to increase intracellular <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\text{Ca}^{2+}$</tex> concentration in response to ultrasound. However, the ultrasound response characteristics of TRP A 1 remain largely uncharacterized, particularly regarding the effect of cell adhesion on the ultrasound response of TRP A 1. Here, we evaluated the effect of microfabricated cellular adhesion areas on ultrasound responsiveness using micropatterning techniques. The ultrasound responsiveness of cells was examined at the center and periphery of each four pattern shapes. Across all pattern shapes, cells at the periphery showed a faster ultrasound response compared to those at the center. Moreover, in small pattern areas, TRP Al showed a greater response to ultrasound stimulation compared to larger pattern areas. In conclusion, these results indicate that the ultrasound response depends on the stress that occurs for the cell.
