Yagi MIMO Antenna with High Isolation and Gain at 38 GHz Using Metamaterials for Millimetre-Wave Applications

This paper introduces a multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) antenna tailored for millimeter-wave technologies, delivering broadband performance, high gain, and excellent isolation. The design includes a single Yagi antenna featuring a third-order mode driven dipole to efficiently operate at 38 GHz frequency band. The incorporation of a driven dipole and reflectors greatly enhances gain performance. The optimized Yagi antenna operates within the 5G band, with a bandwidth of 2.2 GHz. Radiation analysis reveals that the antenna attains a maximum gain of 8.75 dBi at 37 GHz, outperforming conventional Yagi-Uda antennas. The MIMO system incorporates a pair of vertically positioned radiating elements, achieving isolation exceeding 18 dB across the operating bandwidth. The inclusion of a metamaterial (MTM) array between the antennas significantly improves isolation, reaching a maximum of 53 dB at 38 GHz.
