Performance Analysis of Cascaded Bidirectional Converters in Electric Vehicle Applications

Due to the quick growth of electric vehicles(EVs), it is considered as one of the most significant contributors in modern transportation sectors. Energy flow from the utility grid (G2V) to the EVs and also from the battery of the EVs to the grid (V2G) can be achieved in modern EVs. However, integration of EVs into the utility grid may affect its stability, security and the operation. This paper aims for modeling and performance analysis of a cascaded bi-directional converter system for use in EVs. The proposed system employs a bi-directional buck-boost chopper in conjunction with a 1-Φ bidirectional AC-DC converter. This system enables efficient bi-directional flow of energy between the EVs and utility grid. The system is considered to improve the grid power factor, thereby enhancing overall efficiency. The simulation results demonstrate the system effectiveness in maintaining optimal performance under various operating conditions.
