Acoustic Lens Integrated with a Microfluidic Device Toward High-Power and High-Throughput Cell Manipulation
Acoustofluidic micromanipulation technologies are attracting large attention because of its high-throughput and low-invasive characteristics. However, conventional acoutofluidic method can generate relatively small forces which limit their applications. On the other hand, manipulation methods using acoustic lens have high spatial resolution and high manipulation force. However, their throughput are not high. Acoustic manipulation system with both high throughput and high force has not been realized. Therefore, we proposed an acoustic lens integrated into a microfluidic device toward high-power and high-throughput cell manipulations. We designed the acoustic lens to focus acoustic wave inside a microchamber connected to tubes. In the experiment, we confirmed that the acoustic wave was successfully focused at the focal point in the fabricated device and achieved 20% higher acoustic pressure than the conventional standing wave device.
