Scalable Multichannel Diamond Electrodes for Neurochemical Recording
Neurodegenerative diseases demand deeper insight into neural circuitry and neurotransmitters. Fast-scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) enables sub-second measurement of electroactive neurotransmitters, traditionally using carbon fiber microelectrodes (CFMEs). Boron-doped diamond microelectrodes (BDDMEs) offer advantages like wider electrochemical windows, stability, and scalable fabrication. We present a novel freestanding BDDME array, scalable to 16 channels, insulated with parylene C and laser-cleaved for exposure. By building custom LabVIEW-based instrumentation our system allows for unique waveforms per channel. FSCV results show stable backgrounds, low currents, and linear, sensitive responses to dopamine and serotonin, demonstrating potential for in vivo monitoring and scalable, low-variability electrode production.
