GPS, Galileo, and Combined Performance Using SwaP-C Receiver for Defence Applications
Multi-GNSS systems, including GPS and Galileo, are increasingly vital in military applications due to their improved accuracy, reliability, and availability. These systems offer redundancy, ensuring uninterrupted navigation even in challenging conditions like jamming or spoofing. They are critical for guiding unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), precision-guided missiles, and border monitoring. Additionally, in adverse weather or low-visibility environments, the combined signals from multiple constellations enhance location precision and system stability, ensuring mission success. A study comparing the accuracy of GPS, Galileo, and GPS+Galileo combinations using SwaP-C GNSS modules for defence applications found that Galileo provided superior 3D precision over extended periods, while GPS was more accurate for short-duration datasets. The GPS+Galileo combination demonstrated enhanced positional accuracy and dependability, highlighting its potential for demanding defence operations where high precision and reliability are crucial.
