Design and Analysis of Quad-Port MIMO Antenna for Super Wide Band Coverage

This paper presents a compact, circular patch-shaped, coplanar waveguide-fed quad-port MIMO antenna designed for super-wideband coverage. The antenna is designed on a Rogers RT -5880 substrate with dimensions of 0.66λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">L</inf> × 0.66λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">L</inf> (λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">L</inf> is the wavelength at 3.1 GHz) and features four radiating elements with a tapered ground plane to enhance bandwidth. The orthogonal arrangement of the antenna elements ensures improved isolation. The proposed design achieves an impedance bandwidth of 56.9 GHz (ranging from 3.1 GHz to 60 GHz), corresponding to a fractional bandwidth of 180.35%. With a peak gain of 8.4dBi, maximum radiation efficiency of 97%, ECC below 0.006, and DG above 9.97dB, this antenna is highly suitable for 5G, IoT, and other super-wideband applications in the millimeter-wave spectrum.
