High-Speed Multi-Sorting System of Large Partilces by Utilizing Traveling Vortex Generations

We present high-speed multi-sorting of large particles by utilizing traveling vortex. Traditionally, multi-sorting techniques have struggled the trade-off relationships between the target size and throughput, and moreover they have not supported large particles over 100 <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mu \mathrm{m}$</tex>. For this challenge, we employ the vortex enabling to displace the trajectory of large particles within short time. Remarkably, our method can control the vortex size by the piezo-driven on-chip membrane pumps, thereby regulating the displacement of the target particles to multi-outlets with high-throughput manner. As results, we successfully regulated the displacement of vortex over 800 <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mu \mathrm{m}$</tex> within 0.24 ms, and achieved to sort large particle of 160 um beads in 4 outlets with equivalent throughput of 313 Hz. Our method would cover the urgent needs of the multi-sorting of cell spheroids and fossil pollens.
