Modeling and Control of an Interleaved Forward Converter with Coupled Inductor for EV Charging
This paper presents the modeling, analysis, and digital control design of a Forward converter with an output coupled inductor operating in Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM). A detailed circuit analysis, along with the State Space Averaging (SSA) method, is employed to derive accurate mathematical models describing the dynamic behavior of the converter. The resulting transfer functions are validated through simulation, demonstrating strong agreement with analytical predictions in both frequency and time domains. A digital controller is designed and implemented on a DSP, with the design process accounting for discretization effects and system delays. Experimental results obtained from a hardware prototype confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy, exhibiting fast dynamic response and robust voltage regulation under abrupt load changes. The presented methodology provides a solid foundation for both validating the converter model and designing a digital control system.
