Design of a Shoulder Rehabilitation Device With Interactive Interface and IoT Capabilities
In this work, a technological device for the rehabilitation of the shoulder flexion and extension movements is developed. The design consists of three main mechanical components that use tension-compression springs to provide resistance to movement and force measurement. A potentiometer sensor and a Teensy microcontroller are used to measure angles of motion. The system features an interactive graphical interface running on an Android app, which presents challenges to avoid monotony during rehabilitation. In addition, the system has IoT capabilities that uploads data to a remote access platform for continuous monitoring of the user’s improvements on mobility range and strength. A statistical validation was performed, through a capability analysis, which demonstrates the accuracy, precision, and stability of the device, meeting the design requirements, including aspects related to ergonomics, weight and cost.
