Impedance Sensor Network for Multiphase Flow Monitoring and Characterization
This work describes a distributed dual-modality impedance sensor system designed to monitor and characterize multiphase flows in academic and industrial environments. The system combines commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components and custom hardware to implement resistive and capacitive sensing capabilities with the aim of providing insights into flow dynamics. The architecture employs high-speed data acquisition, synchronized timestamping, and configurable signal conditioning mechanisms. Real-time communication is enabled via WebSocket protocols over a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) network, with data aggregation and visualization carried out using a centralized time-series database (TSDB) and interactive dashboard and data analysis platform (Grafana). By merging Internet of Things (IoT) principles with impedance sensing, the system accomplishes a scalable and versatile solution for complex flow monitoring challenges.
