IoT Device for Industrial Automation Applied to Bulk LPG Installations in Brazil
This paper presents the development of a lowcost IoT device for volumetric monitoring of bulk LPG tanks, specifically the P190 (transportable) and P2000H (stationary) models, targeting the Brazilian market. Leveraging Industry 4.0 principles, the proposed solution aims to improve safety, operational efficiency, and logistics for LPG distributors and bulk consumers. The device provides real-time data on LPG volume, temperature, and humidity, accessible locally and remotely like the ThingSpeak cloud platform, eliminating the need for manual inspection of analog gauges. Compliant with ABNT NBR 14024 standard, the prototype demonstrated reliability during field tests in the state of Ceará, Brazil, achieving accuracy within ±1% for volumes between 20% and 70%, and ensuring minimal error at critical safety thresholds, such as 85%. The set design, using PLA or recycled PET, ensures low cost while the developed sensor offers great flexibility and compatibility with various types of bulk LPG tanks currently in use. This represents a significant advancement in LPG monitoring in Brazil by enabling broader application and adoption.
