Multiloop Control for Dual Active Bridge Converter Based on Predictive Voltage and Current Controls With Disturbance Observer

The multiloop predictive control strategy for the Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converter is designed to achieve a fast dynamic response for inductor current and output voltage. The proposed control approach consists of a two-loop predictive controller with an inner deadbeat current control loop using enhanced single-phase shift (ESPS) modulation with peak current sampling and an outer predictive voltage control loop that estimates average current demand. A disturbance observer is derived to estimate and remove the lumped disturbance, without the need for a load current sensor. Experimental results demonstrate fast transient, efficient DC offset removal, and improved voltage control compared to the conventional PI controller.
