Wideband Dielectric Resonator Antenna With Linear and Circular Polarization Diversity for UAV Applications

This paper presents a wideband dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with linear and circular polarization diversity to provide reliable communication for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in space-air network. In a shared aperture, the proposed DRA generates linear polarization (LP) and circular polarization (CP) radiation through hybrid feeding network. The quasiorthogonal HEM122 and HEM113 modes are excited within the proposed stacked DRA and tuned to operate within the same wide frequency band, achieving an isolation of over 18 dB between LP and CP. The experimental results demonstrate that the broadside radiation patterns are achieved by CP operations, with widecoverage LP radiation realized over 15.4% overlapping bandwidth.
