Novel Metal-Waveguide-Based Dual-Band Dipole Antennas for Highly Efficient WLAN Applications

This paper introduces a novel dual-band linearly polarized antenna designed for efficient Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) applications. The antenna's structure combines metal-waveguide feeding transmission lines with a dipole antenna body, enabling high radiation efficiency. To achieve dual-band resonances, two effective methodologies are employed. First, the dipole arms feature stepped radii. Second, extra segments from the feeding line are utilized to generate a second resonance in the reflection coefficients. This design aims to provide relatively omnidirectional WLAN radio coverage at 2.45 GHz, 5.5 GHz, and 6.5 GHz, offering high radiation efficiency for extended range. Full-wave simulations using HFSS and experimental measurements of an antenna prototype validate the design, demonstrating nearly 90% radiation efficiency.
