Women's Health: An Overview of Women's Accessibility to Basic Primary Care

Objective: This study investigates women's access to primary health care in the Alto São João neighborhood (Montes Claros, Minas Gerais), analyzing socioeconomic factors, frequency of appointments, and main needs. Theoretical Framework: The Brazilian population is predominantly female, and this group is the primary user of the Unified Health System (SUS). In addition to routine conventional exams, women have specific needs that require assistance to improve their well-being and quality of life. Methods: This research is a descriptive study of women's health in an urban population, using qualitative methods to present data and analyze the results. Results and Conclusion: It was found that the main visits to health centers are for routine exams, prevention, and prenatal care. The care provided by health professionals in the region evaluated was reported as satisfactory for the population served. Research Implications: The results of this research provide an overview of women's access to basic primary care in a region of the city. Originality/Value: The study demonstrated results that contribute to knowledge regarding the efficiency of the local health system, suggesting a likely potential for a broader study of populations with similar characteristics.
