The reasons that first-year students have for studying medicine in times of pandemic

Motivation is what moves us, it involves energy and drive to learn, work effectively and reach maximum potential. The objective is to know why first-year students decided to study Medicine during the SARS-CoV- 2 pandemic and the reason for doing it at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara. It is a qualitative investigation of natural semantic networks (RSN) where a clear idea of the representation that the student has about the meaning is allowed through the stimulation word. 98 responses from a homogeneous type of sample were obtained through a survey that carried out the 4 steps of the RSN. It turns out the word best reflected regarding the reasons for studying Medicine in the group of students was Help 100%. Talking about the reasons to study in the UAG, the word that best reflected was Joy. The limitations in this study were related to the number of students, it was carried out in a generation with fewer groups than usual. We can conclude that helping people who suffer is one of the most relevant reasons in a pandemic, that arouses interest in being doctors instead of discouragement, where each institution was different according to the infrastructure it had, there are conflicting opinions and post pandemic coincidences. The sense of belonging is an educational dimension that should be addressed with frequency among our students, since it generates motivation, interest, and commitment to their own learning.
