This is the first of C&EN’s new monthly crosswords, put together by a small team of experienced crossword constructors. This month’s puzzle was assembled by Daniel Bodily, a robotics research engineer at 3M in Minnesota, and George Barany, a professor emeritus of chemistry at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. They thank Marcia Lysakowski Brott and Irene Cesa for helpful advice. C&EN thinks that this crossword, whose theme should become clear to the chemistry minded, has the elements of a truly great puzzle.
