Microwave‐Assisted Catalyst‐Free Synthesis of Acridine 1,8‐Diones Using PEG/Water as Solvents

Abstract Herein, we developed a one‐pot, multi‐component reaction of 1,3‐cyclohexanedione, arylaldehydes, and aniline under metal‐free conditions for the rapid synthesis of acridine‐1,8‐diones, employing the greener solvent H2O: PEG‐400 under microwave irradiation. This one‐pot process provides a sustainable and effective way to produce acridine‐1,8‐dione scaffolds, which are interesting because of their biological and pharmacological importance. The procedure reduces its negative effects on the environment while preserving high yields and ease of use by using greener solvents, such as water. There is no requirement for metal catalysts; the reaction runs smoothly at mild temperatures, and it exhibits broad substrate compatibility. This method is in line with the principles of green chemistry since it offers a quicker, cleaner, and greener substitute for conventional multi‐step or metal‐catalyzed synthesis.
