O USO DO GEOPROCESSAMENTO NA IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DE MEDIDAS ESTRUTURAIS PARA MITIGAÇÃO DE MOVIMENTOS GRAVITACIONAIS DE MASSA EM JUIZ DE FORA.

The municipality of Juiz de Fora, located in the Zona da Mata Mineira, according to data from the National Monitoring and Alerts Center (CEMADEN), “has geological and geomorphological characteristics that make it susceptible to the occurrence of gravitational mass movements, especially in urbanized areas and irregularly occupied slopes”. In this context, the use of geoprocessing emerges as a strategic tool for spatial analysis, diagnosis of risk areas and planning of structural mitigation measures. The integration of geographic data allows for a more accurate and efficient approach to territorial management and the prevention of natural disasters. Our objectives are to apply geoprocessing techniques to identify and map risk areas in Juiz de Fora; Subsidize the implementation of structural measures aimed at mitigating gravitational mass movements; and contribute to sustainable urban planning and the safety of the population living in vulnerable areas of Juiz de Fora. The methodology used was a spatial approach, i.e., the location and geographic distribution of the events, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools. The use of maps, fieldwork, and bibliographic consultations, using a multidisciplinary approach. The results showed us that the application of geoprocessing allowed the delimitation of critical zones with high susceptibility to mass movements, especially in peripheral neighborhoods with disorderly occupation. It allowed us to delimit the areas of occurrences, where the map provides us with technical subsidies for decision-making by the government, guiding the execution of containment and drainage works in strategic areas. We conclude that the use of geoprocessing proved to be essential in the management of geological risks in Juiz de Fora, offering technical support for the implementation of effective structural measures. The integration of spatial data and the systematic analysis of the territory contributed to the reduction of socioenvironmental vulnerability and to the strengthening of urban resilience in the face of natural disasters. The continuity of this type of approach is fundamental for sustainable urban planning and the protection of human life.
