Mastering High-load Challenges in Esp Systems: Cutting-Edge Solutions with a New Developed Thrust Bearing in Protectors for Deep, High-Production and Heavy Oil Wells

Resume The increasing demand for reliable and efficient artificial lift systems in deep, high-production, and heavy oil wells has intensified the engineering challenges associated with Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) operations. One of the most critical components in ESP systems is the thrust bearing within the protector, which plays a key role in handling high axial loads and ensuring long-term system integrity. This paper presents the development, testing, and implementation of a newly engineered thrust bearing specifically designed to address high-load challenges in demanding well environments. The innovative design incorporates advanced materials, improved load distribution features, and enhanced thermal management capabilities, resulting in significant improvements in operational lifespan and system reliability. Field trials and laboratory analyses demonstrate the bearing's superior performance under extreme conditions, offering a transformative solution for ESP applications in deep, hig h-rate, and heavy oil wells. This study highlights the bearing's potential to reduce downtime, extend run life, and optimize production efficiency in some of the most challenging extraction scenarios.
