A Summary of the Compilation and Research of Gansu Historical Local Chronicles
Local chronicles are comprehensive compilations of information on various aspects such as celestial constellations, geography, historical establishment, military and political levies, agricultural irrigation, famous scenic spots, local customs, and literary works, characterized by their extensive content and temporal continuity, and serve as fertile historical soil for academic research. During the prosperous periods of local chronicles compilation in the Ming and Qing dynasties and the Republic of China, Gansu also produced meticulous and extensive local chronicles documents. Scholars have always been dedicated to compiling and reissuing, cataloging, annotating, and reviewing and introducing, and have used this as a foundation for version identification, scholarly investigation, and interdisciplinary research from perspectives of language and history, politics, and geography. Reviewing and organizing achievements, summarizing research experience, will help improve the research utilization of historical local chronicles and promote the development of local chronicles digitization.
