An action research into group dynamics and relational skills for effective collaboration on local quality of life and safety Local issues concerning safety and the quality of life consist of diverse but intertwined sub-problems. Interdisciplinary cooperation among local professionals is needed to address them effectively. But this cooperation often proves difficult in practice because of complex group processes. In this action research, we examined local cooperation in addressing safety and the quality of life at Oostplein shopping center. The progress of the partnership seemed to be related to how professionals dealt with clashing views and interests. In particular, it turns out that the chairperson needs relational and substantive qualities to encourage interdisciplinary groups to take collective action.
