Integrated Analysis of Construction and Demolition Waste Management in India: Quantitative and Qualitative Perspectives for Sustainable Development

In order to minimize the environmental effects of urban infrastructure developments, this research emphasizes the improvement of the management of Construction and Demolition (C and D) waste. This study adopts a dual analytical framework comprising quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The quantitative component involves empirical data collection from highway and building construction sites to measure waste types and volumes. The qualitative component engages construction professionals through structured surveys to explore behavioural, procedural, and regulatory factors influencing waste management practices. Together, these approaches provide a holistic understanding of Construction and Demolition (C and D) waste dynamics in India. The responses for the questionnaire survey of 180 construction industry professionals were processed through a statistical analysis package. The results emphasized on Construction and Demolition (C and D) waste management practices to be implemented and awareness has to be disseminated among the construction industry professionals. Also, the results show that enhancing the effectiveness of Construction and Demolition (C and D) waste management systems requires region-specific approaches that are adapted to local policy and regulatory frameworks. The study emphasizes the significance of implementing optimization strategies that concentrate on minimizing waste generation at its source in addition to increasing waste segregation and recycling rates. With the objective of helping global efforts to minimize the environmental impact of building activities, these techniques are essential for integrating construction practices with sustainable development goals. The results support the development of proactive approaches and the integration of context-sensitive waste management techniques that are adaptable to adjust to changing regulatory frameworks and technological advancements.
