Preface

About the conference: Laser-based manufacturing continues to evolve as a cornerstone of modern production systems. The NOLAMP conference series — established in 1987 with its first edition in Oslo — has long served as the primary Nordic forum for the exchange of ideas and advances in laser material processing. What began as a regional initiative has grown into a respected European event, bridging academic research and industrial application. The 20th edition of NOLAMP, hosted this year by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), marks the fifth time the conference is held in Denmark. DTU’s Lyngby campus near Copenhagen welcomes researchers, engineers, and innovators to share knowledge and discuss the future of laser manufacturing. The 20th edition features 42 accepted papers split into two main tracks. Advanced Laser Processing: Materials, Methods, and Applications This topic spans a broad spectrum of laser-enabled manufacturing technologies. Contributions address laser welding, additive manufacturing, surface treatment, microstructure engineering, and laser-material interaction studies. The field has matured significantly since NOLAMP’s inception, with papers demonstrating innovations in both fundamental understanding and applied processes. A total of 26 papers were accepted in this category, reflecting its strong and sustained relevance in both academic and industrial settings. Process Monitoring and Intelligent Manufacturing Laser processing is well positioned to be digitalized which has naturally moved it into Industry 4.0 environments, where the integration of sensing, data analytics, and intelligent feedback becomes critical. Papers in this theme highlight advances in in-situ monitoring, process stability, machine learning integration, and quality assurance systems. With 16 accepted papers, this category showcases the community’s growing focus on digitalization, automation, and adaptive control in laser-based production. List of Editors, Keynote speakers, Invited Speakers, Scientific Committee members, Reviewers, National Organising Committee are available in this PDF.
