Study on water droplets spectra distribution and related influencing factors in High-level water collecting Cooling Tower

Abstract High-level water collecting wet cooling tower (HWCT) has significant energy-saving and emission-reduction potential due to its unique design pattern. The more common HWCT is a high-level water collecting mechanical draft wet cooling tower (HMDWCT). The water droplet spectra distributions of the HMDWCT were tested separately through field experiments, and the proportional distributions and cumulative frequencies of water droplets in different diameter ranges were systematically analyzed. It was found that droplet spectra in the range of 0.8-16.0 mm and droplets with a diameter of about 5.5 mm accounted for the highest proportion of all measured droplets. Finally, cumulative distribution models were developed for HMDWCT to address the limitations of traditional simulation assumptions. These improved models enhance the thermal performance calculations for the small rain zones of the cooling tower.
