Numerical simulation of methane hydrogen-doped combustion characteristics in coaxial staged combustor

Abstract To investigate the impact of hydrogen-blended natural gas on the flow field characteristics of a gas turbine combustor, this study focuses on a coaxial staged combustor, analyzing the influence of varying hydrogen blending ratios on the overall flow field under lean premixed combustion conditions. The results indicate that as the hydrogen blending ratio increases, the high-temperature region in the primary combustion zone expands, the total pressure loss coefficient rises, and combustion efficiency improves. Additionally, temperature distribution non-uniformity decreases, carbon monoxide emissions decline, while nitrogen oxide emissions increase. When the hydrogen doping ratio reaches 45%, the combustor performance parameters change greatly in the range of 40%∼45%, in which the total pressure loss coefficient increases by 21.28%, the temperature distribution unevenness decreases by 69.74%, and the nitrogen oxide emission increases by 379.14%.
