Advances in Layered Double Hydroxide Anion Intercalation Strategies and Their Application in Photocatalysis
Abstract Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) show great potential in photocatalysis due to their unique layered structure and tunable properties. This paper reviews the anion intercalation methods of layered double hydroxides (including co‐precipitation, ion‐exchange, hydrothermal methods, etc.) and the effects of different types of anions on the photocatalytic performance of LDHs. In summary, it was found that (1) anionic intercalation can improve the electronic structure to promote charge separation by adjusting the band gap of LDHs; (2) the introduction of conjugated organic molecules into the interlayer of LDHs can effectively enhance the light absorption range; (3) metal complexes have a significant advantage in increasing the reactive active sites; (4) polyacidic anionic intercalation promotes coupled electron‐proton transport through multistage redox cycling, which allows for a targeted substance for targeted selection. Although the intercalation strategy effectively improves the photocatalytic activity of LDHs, LDHs still face challenges such as insufficient stability and unsuitability for large‐scale application. Therefore, the development of new green and efficient interlayer substances and the development of simple and low‐cost anionic intercalation technology are the directions for the continuation of LDHs substitution strategies in the photocatalysis field in the future.
