Renewable Energy Integration: Challenges and Opportunities in Developing Economies

The integration of renewable energy (RE) into the energy systems of developing economies offers both immense opportunities and significant challenges. As global energy demand rises and climate change concerns intensify, renewable sources such as solar, wind, biomass, and small hydropower present a pathway to sustainable development. This paper examines the economic, social, and environmental benefits of RE integration, including job creation, energy security, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. It also explores the barriers hindering large-scale adoption, such as infrastructural limitations, financing constraints, and policy gaps. Recommendations for overcoming these challenges are proposed, emphasizing policy reforms, technology transfer, and capacity building. By addressing these issues, developing economies can accelerate their energy transition and contribute meaningfully to global climate goals.
