Magnetic Properties and Specific Heat of Gd4Al2O9 High-Quality Single Crystals
We successfully synthesized high-quality Gd4Al2O9 single crystals with a size of (3.0–3.5) × (0.2–0.25) × (0.15–0.2) mm3 for the first time using the flux method. Curie–Weiss (CW) fitting yields Weiss temperatures (θCW) of −8.26 and −10.09 K along and perpendicular to the a-axis, respectively, indicating the presence of magnetic anisotropy in the system. Importantly, an antiferromagnetic transition occurs in the system at about TN = 1.48 K, and based on f = |θCW|/TN = 5.58, it can be further inferred that Gd4Al2O9 exhibits certain magnetic frustration characteristics. The specific heat results indicate that the Debye temperature and sound velocity are 218 K and 2803 m/s, respectively.
