An Analysis of the Factors Behind the Lack of Tax Culture Among Young Mexicans and Their Socioeconomic Conditions
Tax culture plays a highly important role in the stability and economic development of any country. However, in Mexico, the lack of tax culture among young people has become a significant challenge that raises fundamental questions about fiscal sustainability and tax equity in the country. This article focuses on exploring the related factors and consequences of this problem specifically in the young Mexican population, which is practically a few years away from being the majority of Mexico's economically active population. This research begins by explaining the importance of accounting and its relationship with tax matters, as well as analyzes the insufficient understanding of taxes and tax evasion in young Mexicans, which can be attributed to factors such as poor education in fiscal matters, the lack of awareness about the importance of taxes, the great difference between studying in a private institution and a public institution, the lack of access to adequate educational resources. Negative effects are observed on the national economy, including decreased tax revenues, poor tax practices, as well as tax evasion, inequality and lack of financing for essential public services. The implementation of subjects aimed at solid tax acculturation and advocating for the improvement of these positions and actions in young people is seen as convenient.
