Innovative NiO/PANI nanocomposite derived from Ni-MOF for enhanced supercapattery electrode performance

This work examines the fabrication and characterization of Ni-BTC, nickel oxide (NiO), polyaniline (PANI), and NiO/PANI nanocomposites as potential supercapacitor electrode materials. NiO was synthesized through a controlled calcination process of the Ni-BTC metal-organic framework in an oxygen-rich atmosphere. While pure NiO initially exhibited suboptimal electrochemical performance, the incorporation of PANI at a 50/50 weight ratio significantly enhanced its electrochemical properties. Electrochemical analysis demonstrated that the NiO/PANI nanocomposite electrode exhibited excellent performance, achieving a high specific capacitance of 742 F/g, an energy density of 65.96 Wh/kg, and a power density of 200.72 W/kg at a current density of 0.5 A/g. Durability tests over 1000 charge-discharge cycles confirmed its Outstanding durability over repeated cycles, preserving 91.6 % of its original capacitance. This result indicates the effective enhanced activation of the material over extended cycling. The combined effect between the high conductivity of NiO and the pseudocapacitive properties of PANI highlights the potential of the NiO/PANI nanocomposite as an efficient electrode material for next-generation supercapacitor applications.
