Advanced Control for Petroleum Pipelines - Part I: Equivalent Electric Dynamic Modeling
This paper presents a control-oriented electrical model for long-distance multiproduct oil pipelines, employing electrohydraulic analogies to simulate pressure and flow dynamics under both steady-state and transient conditions. The model incorporates viscous flow corrections, numerical methods and mathematical formulations to improve accuracy and capture nonlinear dynamics. Calibration with plant data and benchmark validation confirmed the ability of the model to replicate system behavior. These findings underscore the potential of the model for reliable dynamic simulations and improved pipeline control efficiency.
