A 2.4 GHz Adaptive Radar Platform for Educational Activities on Cognitive Radars
This paper presents a 2.4 GHz Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) adaptive radar platform for educating engineering students on perception action cycles (PACs) used in cognitive radars. The proposed platform is low cost (~ $1,000 USD) and it can perform a basic cognitive decision-making action to detect targets as well as adapt its transmitted waveform based on the approximate range of the detected target. This platform allows students to learn about microwave components used in radars, the PAC, Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) programming, and Raspberry Pi 5 programming.
