Bio-based mixed linker of zirconium MOFs and the beads for CO2 separation

The study systematically investigates CO 2 adsorption on bio-based low-cost fumaric acid and aspartic acid linkers containing Zr-MOF powders and beads, which has the potential to be scaled up. The mixed linker MOF containing aspartate and fumarate were successfully synthesized for the first time using a water based protocol by incorporating the rigidity from the fumarate linker enhancing the BET specific surface area by 101 % and CO 2 adsorption capacity by 117 % at 100 kPa at 298 K compared to Zr-Aspartate. The MOFs were initially examined for their physicochemical properties and characteristics. The adsorption thermodynamics and structural stability of formulated single linker and mixed linker containing MOF beads at flue gas separation conditions were investigated mainly focusing on cyclability and effect of water adsorption on CO 2 uptake performance. The formulated mixed linker MOF beads at 100 kPa and 298 K exhibited an adsorption capacity of around 93 % for CO 2 , compared to its powder MOF, with CO 2 /N 2 IAST selectivity of 38 and excellent structural and CO 2 adsorption cyclic stability under humid conditions.
