A Traffic Control Optimization Problem Leveraging Traffic Flow Differences
Traffic jams are common in global urbanization. It is damaging people's travel efficiency and life quality. City traffic is exploding, making old management unwork. Our research analyzed traffic flow with the MWork simulation platform. Data was collected from two main roads, Jingzhong and Weizhong Road, in a small town. A 4-phase traffic control model was built. 8844996 records from April 1 to May 6, 2024 were preprocessed. 210732 of them were abnormal and did not have license plates. These records were removed and the remaining 8629237 were valid. There are extreme differences between holiday and non-holiday traffic. According to Cluster analysis, May 2 has the largest traffic volume on holidays and April 18 has the average-closest volume in non-holidays. These two dates were suitable for comparison. We divided these data hourly. The traffic volume of the 4 phases was analyzed statistically. Traffic in other time periods can be estimated through peak hour travel probabilities and regular hour probabilities. Our work evaluated traffic in different time periods with the traffic model. Facts have proved that the May Day holiday's traffic control policies have largely lifted the traffic burden during peak time. Road capacity was improved.
