Study of the Synthesis Optimization Methods of a Bionic Airfoil for Traditional Wind Turbine Airfoil Aerodynamic Performance Enhancement

Amid the thriving development of wind turbine technology and the cross-integration with bionics, this study focuses on optimizing the aerodynamic performance of traditional wind turbine airfoils. By innovatively applying two exhaustive parameterization techniques, a fusion of traditional airfoils and bionic airfoils is made, ultimately yielding a series of innovative and unique airfoil configurations. Numerical simulations of the aerodynamic performance of eight synthesized airfoils are conducted, and wear characteristics are comparatively analyzed. The research findings reveal that some of the new airfoils exhibit superior aerodynamic performance across the full range of angles of attack from 0° to 24°. The optimal synthesis airfoil design achieves remarkable enhancements in the lift-to-drag ratio, reaching up to 9.2% on average. These improvements are even higher under wear conditions. The results not only validate the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed parameterization techniques in airfoil optimization but also uncover the inherent patterns of the influence on aerodynamic performance.
