Why the duration of cancer treatment requires a closer look: An empirical analysis of recent FDA approvals
Planned durations of treatment in recent FDA registration cancer trials often significantly exceed the durations patients actually receive. No trials randomized patients to different durations. These findings underscore the need for randomized evaluations of treatment duration to prevent overtreatment. Regulators should prioritize shorter treatment durations unless a strong rationale supports longer ones.
