“Dual Subsartorial Block”: A Novel Technique for Postoperative Pain Management in a Pediatric Patient Undergoing Arthroscopic Meniscectomy

Meniscal injury is commonly seen in adults when compared to children. In children, adolescents are more prone to meniscal injuries with the most common cause being high-intensity sports activities. Discoid meniscus, which is a congenital variant of meniscus, is attributable to meniscal injuries in children <10 years. Meniscal injuries in children lead to pain, swelling, and mechanical symptoms. Treatment for discoid meniscal injury in children includes nonsurgical and surgical modalities. Multiple analgesic strategies are followed, for the management of postoperative pain in children. Regional anesthesia involving various nerve blocks provides effective postoperative analgesia. Dual subsartorial block (DSSB) provides adequate analgesia without motor blockade. We discuss postoperative pain management using DSSB in a 4-year-old boy, a case of discoid lateral meniscus injury.
