Performance Evaluation of PI and ANN Controllers for Fault Compensation in Power Systems Using DVR
Abstract This paper explores the role of a Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) in maintaining voltage stability during power system faults. Voltage disturbances such as sags and swells can severely impact equipment, necessitating effective compensation strategies. The study compares the performance of Proportional-Integral (PI) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) controllers used in DVR systems. PI controllers are simple but less adaptive to dynamic changes, while ANN controllers offer intelligent, data-driven adaptability. A simulation model developed in MATLAB/Simulink assesses each controller under fault scenarios. Results indicate that ANN controllers respond faster and more accurately, ensuring better voltage restoration. Thus, ANN proves more suitable for dynamic power environments.
