Comparative Study on Aeolian Vibration Resistance of Aluminum Conductor Steel/ Aluminium Alloy Reinforced with Vibration Fatigue Test
Abstract High-conductivity aluminum conductor aluminum alloy reinforced (ACAR) conductors are increasingly replacing aluminum conductor steel-reinforced (ACSR) conductors in overhead transmission lines. However, ACAR wire breakage due to aeolian vibration is a growing concern. This paper presents a comparative vibration fatigue test of ACAR and ACSR conductors. The study analyzes differences in vibration resistance based on wire stiffness, structural properties, and input energy. Results indicate that, at similar vibration levels, compared with the traditional steel core aluminum wire, the dynamic bending of ACAR would exceed the allowable value. Additionally, its bending stiffness is lower, with a smaller core area and lower tension ratio efficiency. Calculations show that ACSR requires 1.24–1.32 times more energy input than ACAR under normal conditions. This ratio increases to approximately 2.66 after strand breakage.
