Impact of Contingencies and SVC Placement on Power Flow in a 5 Bus System

Abstract The load flow analysis of a 5-bus power system using the NewtonRaphson method is performed in this paper with an emphasis on system performance both under normal and contingency conditions. Load flow analysis is very essential for assessing stability, reliability, and efficiency in power transfer. It plays a key role in system planning and optimization. The key parameters analysed include the effect of generator and transmission line outages on active power, reactive power, power factor, and voltage stability. To improve the voltage stability and reactive power management issues, SVCs have been placed at buses 3, 4, and 5 as a static form, and their contribution toward power flow and system resiliency has been studied as well. The findings focus on how the integration of SVC improves voltage profile, reduces fluctuations, and strengthens the overall reliability of the power system, providing a valuable insight into reactive power compensation strategies for enhancing grid stability.
