Development and Simulation of a Hybrid Electric Vehicle Power Train Model in MATLAB

Abstract Growing concerns over environmental pollution and the depletion of fossil fuels have accelerated the development of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) as a sustainable alternative to conventional automobiles. This project focuses on the modelling and performance analysis of an HEV using MATLAB/Simulink, aiming to simulate a hybrid powertrain that integrates an internal combustion engine (ICE) with an electric motor. The study evaluates key performance metrics, including energy consumption, fuel efficiency, and emissions. A comprehensive model of the vehicle’s components comprising the battery, power electronics, and energy management system (EMS) is developed to optimize power distribution between the engine and motor. By leveraging model-based analysis, this project enhances the understanding of HEV performance optimization and lays the groundwork for advancing energy-efficient transportation solutions. The insights gained from this analysis can contribute to the refinement of HEV powertrains, ultimately reducing the environmental footprint of the automotive industry.
