Estrongilídeos (Nematoda: Strongylidae) em cavalos segregados em piquetes e sem tratamento anti-helmíntico
This study aimed to evaluate the parasitic load of horses without anthelmintic medication, through fecal examinations performed from July 2022 to June 2023. There are nine adult horses used in practical classes on a veterinary course, in the city of Porto Alegre. Monthly fecal samples were collected and coproparasitological examinations were performed using egg counting per gram of feces (OPG) and coproculture methods. The frequency was 100% of horses parasitized with Strongylidae and an average OPG of 990, 760, 1400 and 1170, in winter, spring, summer and autumn, respectively. Microscopic examination of larval cultures identified: Cylicocyclus radiatus (Looss, 1900) Chaves, 1930; Gyalocephalus capitatus Looss, 1900; Strongylus edentatus (Looss, 1900) Railliet & Henry, 1909; Trichostrongylus axei Looss, 1905 and Triodontophorus spp. Boulanger, 1916. The distribution of Strongylidae eggs was highly dispersed among individuals with low diversity of infective larvae. All animals remained healthy during the year of study. After the experiment, the animals received anthelmintic.
