EXPLORING THE ROLE OF DIGITAL ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATION IN URBAN GREEN LOGISTICS EFFICIENCY IN THE CONTEXT OF ENERGY TRANSITION: EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE FROM 30 CHINESE PROVINCES FROM 2013-2022

With the severe challenge of global climate change and the urgent need for sustainable development goals, the new energy industry is expanding at an unprecedented speed.Energy transition not only profoundly affects the energy production and consumption patterns, but also initiates green transition in the logistics supply chain industry.Enhancing the efficiency of green logistics is crucial for ensuring the sustainable and normal operation of society. This study examines China's urban green logistics efficiency (UGLE) from 2013-2022 using the Super-SBM (Super-Slack-Based Measure) model. Results indicate rising UGLE nationwide, with eastern cities leading and western cities lagging. The decomposition of the GML index reveals regional differences in contributions from technological progress and efficiency changes.Spatial analysis shows the positive spatial correlation of UGLE, particularly in central China. The SDM (Spatial Durbin Model) model further demonstrates that environmental regulation and the digital economy both directly and indirectly affect UGLE.Notably, environmental regulation's direct impact varies regionally, while the digital economy exhibits a negative nationwide effect. The study identifies an inverted U-shaped relationship between these factors and UGLE, suggesting that moderate improvements in digital economy quality and environmental regulation can enhance urban green economic efficiency, but excessive strictness may produce adverse outcomes.
