A THE UTILISATION OF TRADITIONAL HOUSE MEDIA AS CULTURALLY RELEVANT PEDAGOGY IN PROJECT-BASED LEARNING OF ELECTRON CONFIGURATION CHEMISTRY IN EAST NUSA TENGGARA

This study aims to determine the impact of the use of traditional house media as culturally relevant pedagogy (CRP) in project-based learning of electron configuration chemistry material in NTT. This study used a qualitative or descriptive approach involving three public high schools located in three different districts in East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia, namely South Central Timor, North Central Timor, and Belu. Primary data was collected from students and teachers as informants through interview notes, field observations, and other informant data. The results of the study show that it has an impact on: a). Student learning outcomes based on interview data show scores above the minimum completion criteria at school which is 75. b). The impact of the use of traditional house media as CRP in project-based learning of electron configuration chemistry material in NTT is: 1). Increasing student engagement and motivation when learning is connected to culture, and seeing that their culture is valued and used as teaching material. 2). Improving concept understanding. When learning with a cultural context helps students build bridges between new knowledge with their culture and the concept of knowledge they acquire. 3). Building a sense of belonging and inclusion. When learning is connected to students cultural context as a learning environment, it fosters students’ feelings of appreciation and celebration of their cultural diversity. 4). Increasing Confidence and Self-Efficacy When learning materials are connected to students' cultural experiences, their confidence in learning chemistry can increase. 5). Develop Cultural Competence when learning is connected to students culture it brings great potential in strengthening students’ understanding of their cultural heritage and promoting cultural diversity. 6). Encouraging Critical Thinking and Sociopolitical Awareness when learning is matched with learning it will help students to analyse social and environmental issues relevant to their community from a chemical and cultural perspective. 7). Increasing the Relevance of Learning When learning is connected to culture, learning is more relevant to students' lives and futures. 8). Supports Various Learning Styles When learning is connected to culture, students are more responsive to culture and have innovative learning styles. Thus the impact of the use of traditional house media as CRP in project-based learning of electron configuration chemistry material in NTT is very suitable according to the CRP concept.
